THE SACRIFICIAL LAMB
Did you hear that?
Yes I did, so they want to impeach him again, honestly this is not right.
Hello, young ones what is not right?
Welcome mum, we just heard over the news that members of the Lagos state House of Assembly are at it again - they want to impeach the governor.
Did you just say planning? Mum, the plan is concluded already! What they are doing currently is testing the waters. I mean sampling public opinion and gauging people's reaction. Honestly mum, this nation is frustrating.
As for me, I empathize with Mr. Governor; I can only imagine the psychological trauma he will be going through right now.
Mum, you have not said anything.
Martins, what do you want me to say?
Mum, we just said the sitting governor of a state is about to be impeached by the legislature for no constitutionally sound reason and you have nothing to say to that effect? I am disappointed.
Same here Abigael, can you believe Mr Frank asked Ahmed to shut up and stop disturbing the school today when he raised a discussion on the ill-performance of Mr President on the platform of 'The Candidate' and the shabbiness of his campaign.
Really?
Yes, his excuse was that we are junior secondary school students who should face our studies and do away with political matters.
We got here because people like Mr Frank failed to be a politically active citizens. The cluelessness and apathy of his ilk in the matters of how the nation is governed has not gone without making politicians feel they are accountable to nobody.
Martins, you know mum was not always like this, ever since Dad passed she became disinterested in governance.
Of course, that she was not named the substantial General Manager of her company is also affecting her.
Hello do you guys realize I'm still standing here?
Yes, we do and we demand to have a conversation with you concerning the abnormalities going on in this state. You are the leader of this family and we will not critize our political leaders if the first point of call fails in her responsibility.
All we demand is for you to sit down and have this conversation with us.
Okay, let's all sit.
My children, like I have always said and will reiterate....
We ain't kids and we must be active in the political matters of our social environment.
Hmmmm, thank God you haven't forgetten that the governance of Lagos can be likened to the Mafia. What is the head of the mafia called Abigael?
The godfather or Capo.
Fantastic, the godfather has one major duty - keeping the mafia in balance and at the same time, expanding its sphere of influence. As he keeps the mafia in balance, the godfather spots the talents and skills of his boys and assigns portfolios that suit them with the aim of achieving the stated Mafia's overall objective. The godfather demands total submission and utmost loyalty from everyone under his infulence and a tool deployed in achieving this is fear. The godfather must always be revered - no individual or group within his sphere of influence must ever come to the point of thinking that he is weak or unfit to be godfather as this might spur them to start nursing the ambition of usurping him.
Okay, so how does this relate to what is happening in Lagos?
Abigael, you're always in haste! You know your mother will do proper justice to the issue at hand, so be patient.
When the godfather discovers or sees glimpses of disloyalty or insubordination in any of his boys, he will ensure that such is crushed not only for the sake of keeping his throne and territory but also as a warning to others to not even imagine getting that ambitious.
In answering your question my beloved daughter, the governace of Lagos is controlled by the Mafia and overseeing it is the Jagaban. What you heard today is not the voice of the house of Assembly but the hand of the godfather and it is stretched out in full demand for absolute loyalty and unreserved submission. This is the godfather instilling fear in the other boys growing in the ranks. As you might remember, he cut the past governor some slack and that is really hurting him right now; such a mistake should not be made by the godfather.
.
He wants them to realise that his gunning for national influence does not mean he will let go of his first love.
Mum, but the Governor has been crushed, he lost his bid for a second term in office and he his campaigning for their candidate. What else does the godfather want?!
True my son but their is more to politics than meets the eye.
So, what are the governor's options?
An adage says " He that will dine with the devil must come with a long spoon"
Hmmm, the governor came too close and got his linen burnt.
However, he that his down fears no fall. The governor must endeavor to complete his term; how he will go about that, he knows.
So the summary is this - the godfather is fighting for his first love. The attack is not solely aimed at the present governor but everyone seeking to dethrone him.
My own take is that there is need for change in Lagos, this dictatorship must end.
Well, I am hungry but seems you guys are not.
Mum we're having a conversation, don't walk out on us.
